“Barred Owls”

Based on photographs I took while canoeing Shell Bank Bayou. I rounded a bend and on a low lying branch was a barred owl. It was calling continuously to another nearby owl but it took more than 15 minutes for me to locate its companion camouflaged within the Spanish moss. This unveiling emphasizes what I love about the swamp, an ecological density where what we are able to see is only a fraction of the whole ecosystem.

Each “Barred Owl” is part of an edition of 50. After the ink dries the woodcuts are water colored.
